2009 Port Orford 4th of July Jubilee Schedule
July 3rd
9:00am-2:00pm: Kiss It Good-buy Sale
Art at a discount. Theatre 101 building, Seaside Plaza. This event runs through July 5. This is a Port Orford Arts Council Fundraiser.
10:00am-2:00pm: Chalk Art Contest
From 20th St. to Battle Rock Park. Artists can pick up their chalk from 'Neath the Wind Realty. Cash prizes awarded and provided by 'Neath the Wind Realty, with winners announced in the local papers. Mother Nature will clean up.
11:00am-2:00pm: Chetco Federal Credit Union Hot Dog Lunch
All proceeds to benefit Driftwood Smart Reading Program.
12:00pm-4:00pm: Jubilee Central
Open daily, June 24 thru July 5. Located at 831 Hwy 101 (next to the Savoy Theater) home of the Whales, Sails, and Fishtales contest. YOUR VOTE determines the winner in each category. Also, for your viewing pleasure, the work of five local artists on display. We offer Jubilee Pin sets for sale AND a very limited edition of Oregon birthday commemorative stamped envelopes. Come sign our guest book and mark your spot on our world map. Coffee is on! Come and visit.
7:30pm-9pm: Opening night! Theatre 101 presents "Fools Hill...hear the whisper"
An original play adapted by Kennon Stevens based on John Quick's captivating story, Fool's Hill. Step back in time as John (Kennon Stevens) takes you on a poignant and adventuresome stroll through his formative boyhood years in Port Orford. As an accomplished author and teacher, John Quick wrote with depth and passion of his connection to his boyhood home. He is, after all, a descendent of Captain William Tichenor, founding father of our town. Tickets ($10 ea.) are available at the Fun Zone or call 332.PLAY. Theatre 101 is located at 1320 Hwy 101. Come in early (6:30pm) and enjoy the Port Orford Art's Council wonderful display of old photographs, giving us a glimpse into the past of Port Orford and the people who helped make it such a magic place to live.
7:30pm-10:30pm: Pre-Rounds and Square Dance
Beachcombers Cove located 2 miles north of Port Orford. Turn west off Hwy 101 on Nicholson Dr. by mile post 298. This event is sponsored by the Beachcombers Square Dance Club.
1:00pm-4:00pm: Art Gallery Walk
Enjoy a walk about town and visit our local art galleries.
July 4th

7:00am-10:00am: Sandcastle Sculpture Contest
Port Beach on Dock Road. No fees or admission charges. Prizes awarded.
7:00am-10:00am: Rotary Scholarship Pancake Breakfast
American Legion Building. Sponsored by Rotary Club. Pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, coffee or milk. Adults $5.00. Children under 12 $4.00. All money raised supports Rotary scholarships and community projects.
9:00am-3:00pm: Flower Show and Curry County Master Gardener Plant Clinic
Located at the Port Orford Public Library. Organized by Sunset Garden Club. Sorry, no plant sale this year.
9:00am-4:00pm: Quilt Show honoring Oregon's 150th Birthday
Our talented Quilters honor our past, present, and future in a time honored tradition. Located at Com.Hall, corner of 11th and Washington St. Sponsored by Quilter's Corner.

10:00am-3:30pm: Heritage Society Plein Air Art Show
Paintings of the Heads State Park. Located at Port Orford Lifeboat Station Museum, Heads State Park. Show is open from 02 July thru 6 July.
11:00am: Jubilee Parade!
Grab your fold-up chair and find the best spot to watch our parade. It starts at the north end of town. You don't want to miss our own Kristin Lee performing the National Anthem. For information, call Deloris Finch at 332.0990.
Noon-2:00pm: Senior center BBQ and Raffle
Located at the Port Orford Senior Center parking lot 1536 Jackson St. They are serving yummy hamburgers and hot dogs.
Noon-7:00pm: Fresh Fish Fry
Fish, baked beans, coleslaw and garlic bread. Adults $10.00, children 6-10 $7.00 and children 5 and under free! Located at the American Legion Building 11th St and Washington. Sponsored by Port Orford Masonic Lodge.
1:00pm: Parade Ribbons distributed at Battle Rock Visitor Center
Ribbons not picked up at the tie will be held at the Visitor Center until 04 August 2009.
1:00pm: Dinghy Race
Relay race teams row out to a buoy and back. Prizes awarded.
1:30pm: Nash Memorial Duck Race
Rubber duckies will be launched from Iron Head on Elk River and make their way to the end of the gravel lot where they will be collected. Plenty of room for spectators. Prizes awarded and a donation will be made to the fireworks funds. For more info contact Val at 366.1060 or Teri Scott at Coasties.
12:00pm-2:00pm: Horse Exhibition and Riding Competition
Located at the Wilbur Green Arena in Buffington Park. High-speed horse events. Sponsored by Pacific Wind Riders Association.

2:00pm: Port Orford Skate Demonstration
Demonstrations of skateboarding by local skaters. This is a non-sponsored event.
3:00pm: 9th Annual Jerry Can Races!
Join us at the Port Orford Heads State Park. Rally your team and be there at 3pm. Winner receives $50 coupon for Jerry's Rogue Jets. Organized by Port Orford Heritage Society.
3:00pm: Knot Typing Competition
Port Orford Heads State Park. Organized by Port Orford Heritage Society. Win a Port Orford Lifeboat Station Cap!
4:00pm-6:00pm: Gala Reception
The community is invited to a Gala Recpetion at Theatre 101. Walk down memory lane and help us correctly identify people, places, and dates of old photos while you enjoy delicious hor d'oeuvres compliments of yoru hosts, Theater 101 and the Port Orford Arts Council.

Organized by Rands Freelance Writing and Illustration. Kristen Lee starts us off with our National Anthem and the...Fireworks/raffles/dedications
July 5th
9:00am: 13th Annual JR. Allison Saltwater Memorial and Scholarship Saltwater Open Beach Golf
Tee off at Hubbard Cree to base of Battle Rock. Sign up at Port and Starboard Restaurant, Pitches Tavern, or 101 Liquor. Golfers, spectators, friends will gather at Pitches Tavern for the award ceremony. For further information, contact David at 541.253.7506 (cell).
8:30am-11:00am: Beachcombers Pancake Breakfast
